Winnipeg Economic Development & Tourism launches economic strategy

WINNIPEG, MB — November 4, 2025 — Winnipeg Economic Development & Tourism (Winnipeg EDT) launched its new strategy today, charting a bold course for Winnipeg’s economic and tourism growth.

The strategy was unveiled at its inaugural signature event, Winnipeg Forward 2025: Shaping Winnipeg’s Future, held at The Leaf in Assiniboine Park, bringing together leaders from across the private and public sectors.

Developed through collaboration with business, tourism, Indigenous, government and community partners, the strategy sets a clear path to elevate Winnipeg’s profile, strengthen competitiveness, attract investment, visitors and talent — ensuring the city remains a great place to live, work, invest and visit.

“This strategy is grounded in our mission and vision, guided by three interconnected goals that will move Winnipeg forward — and when Winnipeg moves forward, Manitoba does too. It’s our roadmap for protecting what’s at risk and building the kind of prosperity our city and province deserve," said Ryan Kuffner, President & CEO, Winnipeg Economic Development & Tourism.

The three goals are:

  1. Boost competitiveness: Develop Winnipeg into one of Canada’s most investment-ready and economically vibrant cities. Build a city that will thrive no matter the disruption.
  2. Elevate Winnipeg’s global profile: Build a powerful, inspiring global brand that attracts people, investment, and opportunity to Winnipeg.
  3. Advance Winnipeg together: Harness Winnipeg’s business and tourism community to drive citywide prosperity. Through the power of our diverse partners, and leaders within the community, we can drive inclusive and sustainable economic growth.

Since 2016, the agency has helped deliver meaningful outcomes for Winnipeg, including supporting the establishment or expansion of more than 60 companies; helping to attract, secure and support the delivery of more than 500 events; drawing more than $1.5 billion in capital investment; and contributing to the creation of nearly 16,000 jobs. Altogether, these efforts have added an estimated $5.3 billion to the city’s economy.

The launch also marks Winnipeg Economic Development & Tourism’s first event under its new unified name, announced earlier this fall, which brings together economic development and tourism under one banner. This integrated model ensures a more cohesive approach to growth and better positions Winnipeg to compete nationally and internationally.
