What does it really mean to be a Winnipegger?

It’s not just about identifying with a place where we live, work and play.  

It’s about a long-standing history of pride and resilience that runs through our community.  

We consistently rise to challenges – whether it’s facing COVID-19, fierce flooding, epic snowstorms, bringing home our favourite hockey team or winning a Grey Cup.  

People may try to put a limit on what we can do, but every single time we show them we can beat expectations and raise the bar in business, arts and innovation.  

These past few months Winnipeggers and Manitobans have stepped up to flatten the curve. Today we are one of the safest places on the continent. We have all done the hard work to put us in good position to grow our economy again. It’s time to capitalize on it, and get back to work and play.  

It might take some time to rebuild what we had, but we will build back better.  

Behind every company, tourist attraction, restaurant and local business are people who make this province what it is: closely connected, community-driven and forward-thinking.   

We know from a recent survey we did with Probe Research Inc.; Winnipeggers are optimistic about our future. We need to build on that confidence and still be ready to tackle issues that may come up.  

My Winnipeg, your Winnipeg, our Winnipeg. It has challenges but there are always people stepping up to drive change and find solutions. We should be proud of that and our willingness always see the possibilities.

They represent the positive stories we see in business; the amazing diversity we have in our community and the potential we see for our future.
